Selma Makela

Selma Makela is a Galway based artist who graduated with first class honours degree from Cluain Mhuire, GMIT, Galway in 2007

Since graduating she has exhibited twice a at PEER, Hoxton; ‘Cosmic Ray Weather Station ‘ 2012 and ‘Sound Travels Further in the cold ‘ 2008. Other Solo projects include ‘Eavesdropper’ , Oonagh Young Gallery, Dublin 2010 and Ballina Arts Centre 2008. She has been the recipient of awards from the Galway County Council, the Claremorris Open Exhibition, and selected for Eigse, 2011 and 2012.

In 2010 she was awarded a Fleck Fellowship to the Banff Centre in Canada. She was also selected to partake in the Fogo Island residency, Newfoundland in 2011 and invited to return in 2013.

Her work is in private collections in Ireland, London and Canada and in the collections of Galway City Council and Mayo County Council
